SFC game switched to 5pm

Maynooth's third round senior football championship clash with Leixlip has been switched to 5pm this Saturday (11 September) in Celbridge. The game had been originally scheduled to be played at 8pm under lights. Maynooth are currently top of the championship table after two rounds of matches but the race for a place in the last eight is still wide open as there are two rounds of matches to be playing, including this weekend's games.

Ladies go down to Castlemitchell

Maynooth missed out on the chance to claim the Tony Mooney Cup when they were beaten by Castlemitchell in the Kildare intermediate final in Naas on Sunday evening (5 September). Three goals were the downfall of Maynooth who were able to match their opponents for most of the first but with the wind at their backs they failed to make the most of their first half chances and trailed by 2-4 to 0-2 at half-time; the points coming from Michelle Carey and Michelle O'Connor.
After the break Maynooth did their best to get back into the game but a third goal for Castlemitchell left them with a mountain to climb despite the best efforts of Louise Walsh, Siobhan McCourt and Catriona Dolan. Maynooth have the All-Ireland mini-sevens to look forward to at the end of the month.
Kildare IFC Final
Castlemitchell 3-6
Maynooth 0-7

Mooney's side in search of Tony's cup

Maynooth's ladies football team are on the quest for the Tony Mooney Cup again this year - and on Sunday evening manager Anto Mooney hopes to be presenting her dad's cup to the Crom Abú. Beaten in last year's final by Balyna, Maynooth face last year's junior A champions, Castlemitchell, in this year's intermediate championship final in Naas at 6pm on Sunday (4 September). Best of luck to the team and Anto.

Karl and Paul on the hunt for Sam

Kildare's quest to make it back to the All-Ireland SFC Final continues this weekend when the Lilies face Down in the All-Ireland semi-final on Sunday at 3.30pm in Croke Park. It's 10 years since the county played in a semi-final and 12 years since the Lilies last appeared on the biggest occasion of the year. Best of luck to Maynooth's finest, Karl Ennis and Paul Flood, who will be hoping the Lilies can do the job this weekend.

Seniors draw Leixlip, seconds face Sash

The draws for the third round of this year's Kildare football championships were made on Tuesday night and Maynooth have been paired with neighbours Leixlip. It will be familiar terrain for Maynooth manager, Declan Cryan, who previously played with the Radley Park outfit. Meanwhile the club's second team footballers will play Sarsfields in the quarter-finals of the SFC Reserve A. No dates have been announced yet although the seniors won't be in action again until after Kildare's run in the All-Ireland championship.
