Maynooth missed out on the chance to claim the Tony Mooney Cup when they were beaten by Castlemitchell in the Kildare intermediate final in Naas on Sunday evening (5 September). Three goals were the downfall of Maynooth who were able to match their opponents for most of the first but with the wind at their backs they failed to make the most of their first half chances and trailed by 2-4 to 0-2 at half-time; the points coming from Michelle Carey and Michelle O'Connor.
After the break Maynooth did their best to get back into the game but a third goal for Castlemitchell left them with a mountain to climb despite the best efforts of Louise Walsh, Siobhan McCourt and Catriona Dolan. Maynooth have the All-Ireland mini-sevens to look forward to at the end of the month.
