Minors bow out to Athy

Maynooth's minors bowed out of the championship at the quarter-final stage for the third year running - and for the third time against Athy - as the reigning champions overpowered the Crom Abú in the final ten minutes. It was a brave fight from Maynooth, who were level with 11 minutes to go but the winners hit 1-6 in the closing quarter to seal their place in the semi-finals.

Minors draw old foes in quarter-final

It's familiar territory for Maynooth in this year's Minor Football Championship Quarter-Final as they take on Athy for the second year running at the last eight stage. After two wins and a third round defeat to Naas, Maynooth are in good position to avenge last year's narrow one point defeat to Athy, who went on to win the championship for the second successive year. This year the south Kildare side are chasing a third title on the trot but the Crom Abú stand in their way next Tuesday (17 August), when they meet at 7pm in Milltown.
Maynooth will be backboned by county minor captain John Comerford as well as fellow Kildare players, Shane Delaney and Mark Donnellan.

Minors make winning start

MAYNOOTH made light work of a tame challenge from St Laurence’s in the first round of this year’s Minor A Football Championship at Raheens on Monday night (19 July). Martin O’Connor was the star of the show for a high-scoring Maynooth and he broke Larries’ hearts by scoring 1-8 in all, enough to comfortably account for the losers on its own.

Captain Comerford leads Kildare to victory

Kildare's minor footballers, captained by Maynooth's John Comerford at centre-back, gained revenge over Dublin for last year's Leinster final defeat with a convincing four point win over the Dubs in the first round of the championship on Saturday (17 April) in Newbridge.
Maynooth's Mark Donnellan a fine game in goals while Shane Delaney was among the subs. The Lilies now have a five week breaek to the quarter-finals, where they could meet the Dubs again, if they overcome Louth in the losers' second round.

Minors championship run comes to an end

Maynooth lost out to Athy by a point in the quarter-finals of the A championship on Tuesday evening, 8 September. An early first half goal proved costly as Maynooth battled back from two points down at half-time but missed too many chances in a dominant second half display, allowing the reigning county champions to win by the minimum.
