Maynooth GAA

Maynooth's under-12 camogie enjoyed a very successful weekend at the Dublin blitz organised by Naomh Brid in August. Representing Kildare against the leading clubs from other counties, Maynooth fielded two teams, in itself a wonderful achievement. The Group A team topped their group with a 100 per cent record following comprehensive victories over Lucan Sarsfields, Ballinasloe and Ballinteer.

In the semi-final the girls met a strong, physical Castletown-Geoghegan (Westmeath) team and despite leading at half-time, could not hold out for victory, losing to a goal scored in the closing stages. The Group B team had some difficult matches in the group stages but saved their best for last, narrowly losing to a much older Ballinteer team in the shield semi-final.

The eventual winners of the blitz were Lucan Sarsfields (Cup) and Ballinteer (Shield). Congratulations to all the girls involved in what was a great day.

Following their unbeaten league campaign to date Maynooth's u-12 camogie team have been chosen to represent Kildare at an inter-county blitz being hosted by Dublin club Naomh Brid on Sat 28th August. Taking part along with Maynooth and the hosts (who are currently top of Division 1 in the Dublin), will be Lucan Sarsfields, Ballinteer St. Johns (both Dublin), Ballinasloe (Galway), De La Salle (Waterford) and a Castletown-Geoghan (Westmeath). Games against such quality opposition are sure to provide a tough challenge for the girls but it is neverthelss a great opportunity for the girls to test themselves and a well deserved reward for some excellent performances in the championship to date.
