Happy Christmas from Maynooth GAA Club

Happy Christmas from Maynooth GAA Club

Maynooth GAA Club would like to wish all its members a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. 2009 has been a hugely successful year in the life of Maynooth GAA club and after all the strides that have been over the last 12 months, the foundations have been set for many successful years to come and it all begins again in January when our senior football team set out in the All-Ireland intermediate football club championship with a semi-final date against Spa from Kerry.

There have been many highlights during the year, not least the visit of the football Féile to Kildare in July, when the club made it all the way to the division one football final, while it was a huge year for our under-14 camogie team, who claimed the club's first ever Féile crown earlier in the year. The year began in celebratory style when we held our club awards night at the Glenroyal Hotel in March where the 2008 Leinster and Kildare ladies football champions were the top billing and as we end 2009, once more we can boast of a team with county and provincial titles.
Along the way there was triumph for the intermediate hurlers, U21 and minor camogie teams, yet only heartbreak for the intermediate ladies in football and camogie as they lost out in the county final. Scór ended the year as top of the pops in Kildare again and as the club entered December we took time to remember someone special when the minor hurlers of Killard and Naas battled it out for the Ruairi Kelly Cup - the new trophy for the Kildare minor hurling champions.
Ruairi would have enjoyed 2009 more than most - he would have been an integral part of the hurling side and he would have been waiting in the wings if the footballers needed him too - and you can be sure that he would have been one of the first in for the celebrations. As the club breaks new ground we are always in the debt of those who have helped mould the club along the way, even if they aren't around to enjoy Christmas 2009.
This year was really a year to cherish. Happy Christmas everyone and all the best for 2010.
