The carnival comes to town

The carnival comes to town

It's time to get the bunting out - Maynooth is set to go football crazy when the much celebrated Junior Bs line out in the league final this Monday, 2 August. Team manager Mick Gillick is set to stir a frenzy in the town over the next seven days as he gets the town behind his charges. He won't have much work to do - already Barry Doyle and Sean Lennon have been spotted in the local hostelries telling everyone and anyone about the biggest occasion in Maynooth's storied junior football history.
Standing in their way are Clogherinkoe but Maynooth are notorious giant-killers, especially when the shaven headed Donal McAvinue is prowling around the edge of the square.
"I'm ready for this one," he said in Brady's front bar on Saturday night. "I'm back and I mean business."
Tickets are on sale from all usual outlets on Wednesday. The venue is Kilcock and the throw-in is at 6pm. The Angelus bell will hardly be heard above the throng of Maynooth supporters expected to pack the sidelines.
