MFC A ROUND 1
MAYNOOTH 1-19
ST LAURENCE’S 0-3
It was a one-sided affair from start to finish and the losers could only register one point in the opening half as Maynooth amassed 12 points.
O’Connor led the way at corner-forward, hitting some pinpoint frees from distance, while county minor captain John Comerford showed that his radar was just as good as the forwards, with four points to his name. Together with Kildare minor keeper, Mark Donnellan, who partnered him in the winners’ midfield, they suffocated the Larries and not even the move of the Larries county minor, Padraig Fogarty, from centre-forward to midfield could halt Maynooth’s march.
With a 0-12 to 0-1 lead at the interval, the game was over as a contest but Maynooth continued to drive forward and their victory was capped off by a well taken goal from Martin O’Connor in the third quarter.
At the opposite end Neil Delaney was thwarting the Larries at every turn, making a string of fine saves in the final quarter as the losers struggled to find the target.
After TJ Kavanagh scored a rare point for Laurence’s, Maynooth finished the game in style with three successive points from Andy Fox, Martin O’Connor and Sean O’Connor.
